Fast axonal transport of synaptophysin:GFP in cultured hippocampal neurons (see Tang et al., Traffic, 2012). Total time of movie ~ 15 seconds.
Fast axonal transport of bassoon:GFP in cultured hippocampal neurons (see Tang et al., Traffic, 2012). Total time of movie ~ 15 seconds.
Axonal transport of mRFP-tagged mitochodria in cultured hippocampal neurons (see Tang et al., Traffic, 2012). Total time of movie ~ 1000 seconds. Note the intermittent transport, and the large number of paused mitochondria. Though mitochondria are designated to move in "fast transport", their overall movement (~ 50 mm/day) is slower than other vesicular cargoes like synaptophysin and bassoon (~ 100-400 mm/day).
