Madison
All locals know Madison is the best place to live in the US. Experts agree (http://www.livability.com/wi/madison). Flanked by lakes, parks, world-class museums (free!), and numerous cultural activities throughout the year, the city boasts of extensive biking trails linking the entire city and (https://www.cityofmadison.com/bikeMadison/) surrounding areas (https://www.cityofmadison.com/bikeMadison/), a rarity for a US city. Coupled with numerous activities for all four seasons and a deep sense of community, few other cities can match the quality of life enjoyed by Madisonians. Students and postdocs typically live in subsidized housing by the lake - the village of Shorewood Hills, virtually un-affordable for everyone else (including faculty) - and often bike to work along spectacular lakeside trails. Shorewood Hills is also a diverse community with some of the top ranked schools in the US. Below are some assorted pictures (many taken by the PI while commuting to work from his suburban home).
